Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at jk@arbucklecattleco.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

What does “grass-fed and finished” mean?
Our cattle are raised entirely on our pastures and are not fed grain. That means healthier, richer, and more natural tasting beef. The way it used to be.

What breed of cattle do you raise?
We raise premium Aberdeen Angus cattle, known for their tenderness and flavor even when grass-finished. This ancient breed finished well on grass.

Is your beef hormone and antibiotic-free?
Yes, always. No hormones, antibiotics, or GMOs.

Where are your cattle raised?
All our cattle are raised right here in Northern California Foothills on open pasture with fresh air, clean water, and plenty of space.

How do I buy your beef?
Order directly from us! Reserve your quarter, half, or whole beef online now with a deposit to hold it. See announcements and banners for updates of availability.

What cuts come with a quarter, half, or whole beef?
Each share includes a mix of steaks, roasts, ribs, and ground beef — custom cut to your preferences by our local butcher.  See the information under each order form.

What is a Mixed Butcher’s Choice Selection on a Quarter Side?

A Mixed Butcher’s Choice quarter means you receive a balanced variety of cuts from both the front and back of the animal. Our butcher selects the best mix of steaks, roasts, and ground beef so you get a well-rounded package without having to choose each cut.

What does “hanging weight” mean?
Hanging weight is the weight of the beef after it’s been harvested and before it’s cut and packaged. Excess bones and fat are removed, giving you the yield weight of the edible portions. Your yield weight will be less than your hanging weight.

Do you dry-age your beef?
Yes. Every side is dry-aged 14 days for premium tenderness and flavor.

How is the beef packaged?
Vacuum-sealed, labeled, and frozen. Ready for your freezer or dinner table.

How much freezer space do I need?

  • Quarter beef: 4–7 cu. ft.
  • Half beef: 8–10 cu. ft.
  • Whole beef: 16–20 cu. ft.

Do you offer local delivery?
Yes! On a pre-set weekend we'll drive your freshly frozen packaged beef to a pre-designated public location as close to you as possible. Unfortunately, we do not deliver direct to your door.

Can I pick up my order?
Of course! Pick up is available at our ranch by appointment only.

Do you ship outside your area?

We currently serve our local area only to ensure top quality and freshness.

Why choose grass-fed and finished beef?
It’s higher in omega-3s, vitamins, and antioxidants — better for you, the cattle, and the environment.

Why buy directly from a rancher?
You’ll enjoy fresher beef, better pricing, and the comfort of knowing where your food comes from — while supporting local agriculture.

What makes Arbuckle Cattle Co. different?
We’re a small family ranch focused on quality, care, and connection — raising cattle naturally and locally the way it should be.
